This page is a plain-language starting point drafted by the platform operator. It is not legal advice and has not yet been reviewed by a qualified lawyer — it should be reviewed and finalised by legal counsel before being relied upon for real user data.
ilearn4u (Industry and Development Learning for You) is committed to protecting the privacy of students, parents, schools, businesses and universities who use the platform. We handle personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the thirteen Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) it sets out, including any applicable amendments such as the Privacy and Other Legislation Amendment Act 2024. Because many of our users are minors, we apply additional care when collecting, using and disclosing information about students.
Depending on your role, we may collect:
We use personal information to:
To protect younger users, students do not communicate directly with businesses or universities on ilearn4u. All coordination about placements is channelled through the student's school counsellor. A student's personal information is only shared with an organisation to the extent needed to process an application the student has chosen to submit.
We disclose personal information only to the parties involved in a student's application (the student's school and the relevant organisation), to service providers who help us run the platform (such as hosting and payment providers, under confidentiality obligations), or where required or authorised by Australian law. We do not sell personal information.
We take reasonable technical and organisational steps to protect personal information from misuse, interference, loss, and unauthorised access, modification or disclosure, consistent with APP 11. Database access is restricted by row-level security rules so that, for example, a business or university can never query a student's profile directly. We keep information only for as long as necessary:
We use essential cookies to keep you signed in — the platform cannot function without these. With your consent, given through the cookie banner shown on your first visit, we also use Google Analytics cookies to understand how the site is used in aggregate; these are never loaded before you consent, and you can decline them and still use the platform fully. We do not use cookies for advertising, and we do not sell or share cookie data with third parties for their own marketing purposes.
You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of the personal information we hold about you at any time, in line with APPs 12 and 13, by contacting us at ilearn4usupport@gmail.com. Deletion requests are actioned manually by our support team (this is not yet a self-service, in-product feature). If you have a privacy concern or complaint, contact us at the same address. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC).
